Stay – Galle Face Hotel
No stay is complete without staying at this historic hotel built in 1846. It reflects an era of grandeur visited by royalty, celebrities and the occasional Pope. The hotel is under restoration until approximately November 2014.
Eat – The Gallery Café
This beautiful location used to be the working studio of local and great architect Geoffrey Baw. You’ll fall in love with the simplicity and rustic chic. It has superb food and service – and there is a shop for local goodies.
The Galle Fort
It’s a must do and it left me feeling like I had come home. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site which has a colourful history. You could stay at the Galle Fort hotel or the Amangalla resort where the high tea lunch is an experience in itself.
Shopping – Barefoot
Products are handcrafted and the skills are timeless. Barefoot is scattered all around Sri Lanka but in Colombo on Galle Road, it has a store, bookshop, gallery and cafe which is great for a light, healthy lunch – it’s a great place to hang out.
